Last week on The Disruptors, Mina Mitry pitched Kepler Communications, a company thatās building a network of low-cost satellites to improve communication infrastructures in space.
The company is working to tackle the problem of intermittent connectivity for non-geostationary satellites, since most satellites can only relay information when they are near a ground station. Kepler is set to launch its first nanosatellite in November 2017.
āThese satellites…provide you with gigabytes per second in data transfer. So today, customers would be able to connect to our satellites with really small devices and send data straight up to our network,ā said Mitry, CEO of Kepler Communications. āWeāre on a mission to connect the people and devices that gather the worldās information.
Co-host Bruce Croxon says Keplerās product is an example of how satellites are being enhanced to improve connectivity. āWe used to look at satellites into areas we didnāt have access to and here weāve got a better way to connect the satellites,ā said Croxon.
